Home School Teaching

Most home school teachers are stay-at-home mothers. If asked, for the most part, these teacher/mothers would say the time they spend teaching their children are some of the most rewarding times of their lives. They love spending the extra time with their children when they would normally be away at school. Few if any home school teachers would have it any other way. They simply love their day jobs.
One of the advantages of a home school is that children can work at their own pace. Children who are very smart can speed through their work whereas in public school they might get bored at the slow pace. On the other hand, slower children can work more slowly until they truly understand concepts. In schools, teachers simply cannot wait for the slower student to catch up with the rest of the class. Also, many times the slower students are ridiculed by their peers for being a little slow. Home school teachers can set the pace of the school to be as slow or as fast as needed.
Many parents worry that their children will be faced with issues that they would rather keep them away from. By home schooling their children, they can add prayer and the Bible to the regular class work. In fact many of the schools that offer curriculum materials have Bible based home schooling materials.
Not all home school teachers want a Bible based curriculum. Some home school teachers have at one time been teachers and decided to be stay-at-home mothers. Then because of their love of teaching, they decided to create a home school for their children. Oftentimes, these teachers will do their best to follow county curriculum guides.
Home school teaching can be very difficult. Some days no one feels like working even the mom/teacher. On days like these, it is more important than ever to keep some kind of schedule. A good plan might be to have reading for fun and maybe some educational games. Making this a constant practice isn’t a good idea but once and a while its fun.
Many home school teaching is simply watching their children while they work on online classrooms. Distance Learning is becoming more and more popular. Because kids love computers, they will more than likely enjoy working on a computer. This can become boring so other techniques should be utilized.
Home school teaching should have a schedule each day. The schedule might change from day-to-day, but a schedule is of paramount importance. When the children grow up, they will have to live with schedules for the rest of their lives unless they can be their own bosses.
One real advantage of home school teaching is field trips. I don’t mean go to Wal Mart shopping for clothes and call it math. I mean going to historical places, art museums, the local library, and other important places. You can have them write about their experiences.
Home school teaching can be very rewarding but also hard work. Teaching is not an easy road to travel even if the students are your own children. Maybe that’s even harder. If you decide to be a home school teacher, good luck. Do the best for your children.
